IP is the abbreviation for Internet Protocol. When you are connected to the internet (or rather a computer network), you are assigned with a personal address. This address is called the IP address (Internet Protocol address). According to the Wikipedia-
"An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a numerical label assigned to each device (e.g., computer, printer) participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication."
 Many times you need your IP address for random reasons and it is frustrating, if you face failure to find it. Not to worry. Here's the solution. This step by step tutorial will make it easier for you to find out the IP address of your windows PC. 

List of things you are going to need:
  • A Windows computer (XP/7/98)
  • An internet connection
  • Command Prompt
  • An internet browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Mozila Firefox)
Now lets look at the techniques of finding your computer's IP address

By Google:
One of the easiest methods of finding the Ip address is by the help of Google. All you have to do is search in google with the term- my ip. See the example bellow:

 By Command Prompt:

This technique is also an easy way to find out your IP address. First of all open the command prompt, by going Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.

Or you can also open command prompt by going to Start > Run, and typing "cmd" (the run function can also be opened by pressing the Windows Key+R).


After opening command prompt write ipconfig and press enter. Your IP address is revealed.


Next try to read the IP address from the output results, which will look like:


So now you know how to identify your pc's IP address by command prompt, try it now.
